Just to clarify before any fans bite my head off, I was actually looking forward to getting this game for some time and I have been a long time fan of the Far Cry series. Primal had me excited because it's not very often you get a game where its setting is in the stone age and even less so when it's a first person game that doesn't involve the player essentially being a pair of arms and a gun the entire time. The hunting mechanics and whole idea of trying to survive in the brutal harsh environment fending off wild animals and early humans seemed interesting and fresh. That was until earlier today I had learned of some of the very lazy design behind the game's creation.
It seems that Far Cry Primal's entire overworld is just a retextured version of the world from the previous game Far Cry 4 with some layout tweaks. If you look at the two map designs from the two games you can see that Primal recycles almost the entire layout from the previous title. Credit goes to GamePressure.com for highlighting the obvious similarities between the two maps for comparison.

While some areas of the map world have been made bigger in size and certain locations given slight alterations, it's pretty clear that the developers have recycled the same map from the last game. This isn't the first time Ubisoft have done this kind of map recycling for their games. Their spin off title Far Cry Blood Dragon is a game which utilises a recycled version of the world from Far Cry 3, which was fine as the game was merely a "What-if?" bonus game that was a fraction of the price of the original Full Game it was based on. Primal however sells itself at the full retail price of a new game despite it's lack of originality in overall design when going by the map and re-used mechanics from previous games.
Now you might be thinking "Oh well Primal must take place in the same location as Far Cry 4 but in a different time period" and to be honest, that was my first thought too. However after being informed by some players of the game, it turns out that Primal takes place somewhere in Central Europe while Far Cry 4 is set in the Himalaya's in South Asia. The two locations are nowhere near each other and yet the world maps are the same.
Some fans have already expressed disappointment or mixed feelings regarding the quality and how enjoyable Far Cry Primal has been, with the revelation that the game is recycling way more elements from previous games that disappointment has turned to straight up anger. While some may still find the game enjoyable and perhaps never played Far Cry 4 they're still satisfied with what they have to play but for veteran players they can't help but feel the entire experience is way too samey, and lazy.
I myself am going to give this game a skip for now, wait until the price drops and I can purchase it second hand somewhere. I think actively encouraging the developers to churn out a game that cuts corners in ways like this is not a good sign for future games if they think we will put up with this lack of originality and effort. It's a shame as like I said, I do genuinely like the game's concept and I have enjoyed every Far Cry game I have played thus far, but if this is the level of quality the developers intend to put out I'd say it'll be a far cry from me and the queue in the game shop for the next instalment.
