BrolyLegs - Inspiring Video Gamers 1

Just wanted to make posts like these about some very admirable video gamer's I've found out about over the years. I will likely make this into a sort of series where I just want to bring to attention some particularly inspiring gamers. Whether it be for their talents as players, as artists, as musicians or just doing generally cool and nice things as individuals.

It can be hard for some people to get into video games due to maybe a lack of experience or simply not being used to the controls, but for other's it's even more difficult. Accessibility to video games has been what makes it such an iconic industry, the fact that almost anyone can just pick up a controller and start to play. However for some individuals this is no easy task and perhaps even impossible. Disabled gamers who have limited use of their arms and hands have been rather restricted in what they can do and which games they can play to the point that many disabled gamers simply have no interest in video games because of the extra effort it would require on their part to play them which is entirely understandable. A few gamers however I wish to talk about have managed to make a name for themselves by pushing beyond their limitations in order to have fun and enjoy video games just like everyone else.

The first I'm going to bring up for today's post is a player who goes by the name BrolyLegs. This modest young man from Brownsville, Florida USA has made a name for himself amongst the competitive professional fighting game community for his skill in the fighting game franchise Street Fighter...by actually being able to play in the rather complex intense reactionary game despite being disabled. Broly has a condition known as Arthrogryposis, which is a failure in the development of muscle growth that results in extremely limited usage of limb movement meaning he cannot use his hands to anywhere near the same degree as an able bodied individual. Despite his physical limitations, Broly has instead found a unique way of playing video games using his face and mouth to input commands into the controller. Not only is he able to play video games this way but, he's really flipping good at them too.

As mentioned before Broly has become well known amongst the fighting game community for his amazing feats in Street Fighter 4. He has regularly attended professional fighting game tournaments and on top of outright wiping the floor with many of his opponents he is also currently the highest ranking online player for the character Chun-Li in Street Fighter 4. Chun-Li in particular is seen as a rather technical character to play compared to some others in the game which makes his skill and reaction times with her while only using his face to control the game even more impressive. He's even managed to realise his dream of atending the biggest Fighting Game Tournament Event known as Evolution back in 2013 with a lot of support from fans of him who helped donate towards him attending. He puts even many an able bodied player to shame by achieving with just his face what some players never push themselves to do with their own two hands.

This is just one example of him playing, there's plenty of video of him in action on youtube and even a video posted by the creators of Street Fighter themselves that highlight Broly as a player with interview questions and footage of him doing what he does best. If you are even remotely interested in the competitive fighting game scene for Street Fighter or you just have an interest in examples of disabled gamers achieving great things then BrolyLegs is one of those players to check out. He is an inspiration to not only disabled gamers, but to anyone and everyone. He is a prime example of how hard work and dedication with the determination to push yourself despite whatever limitations you may have in order to achieve your goals. I know I certainly want to improve my skill, if Broly can achieve what he can despite his condition then I most certainly can do it if I practice and work hard.

Check out his youtube channel and personal website if you're interested in this amazing person!
